Black Tower
An angular tower of black bossed blocks, the dominant of the castle, in particular distinct from the side of the entrance to the castle has always fed up fantasy. It might have been a Roman tower or a tower built by the Vandals or remains of the original castle. The digging in the years of 932 – 1933 has solved the question of the age of the tower. The found remains of the Vohburg castle, two towers and a transverse wall were partly located under the Black Tower, thereby it was confirmed that the tower was built as a part of the royal palatine, it means at the end of the 12th century.
The part of the tower built of black blocks over the basis of 9,2 x 8,9 m protrudes to a height of 18,5 m. The light extension is from 1774. The building material of the black part is basal from Komorní Hůrka being situated about three km northwest from the castle.
