Church and Commandery of the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star

The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas built before 1441 was also demolished and only a low brick wall delimits its original ground plan. The Church of Saint Bartholomew and its frescos were renovated in 1962.
Accessible to the public (according to opening hours)
The hospital, which had been originally administered by the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit, was assumed by the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star in 1271. This only order of Bohemian knights was established in 1237 by hospital brethren founded by Saint Agnes of Bohemia. The order built the present-day church on the site of a previous monastery church or chapel in 1414. The commandery (komturia) next to the church, which served as the seat of the Knights of the Cross in Cheb, and the adjoining hospital were reconstructed in Baroque style in the late 17th century. The hospital was destroyed by a massive fire that swept through the town in 1809. The new hospital built in 1835 was damaged during the destruction of a bridge in 1945 and later demolished.
