Evangelical Church
The evangelical community founded in 1862 was meeting in the jury hall of the town hall. The community did not consider it a suitable place and in addition, it paid a rent of 150 golden coins per year for it. Therefore it was decided to build the own church. The collections in the provinces of Saxony, Brandenburg and Bavaria bore more than 23 thousand golden coins, 332 tolars came from the dukedom of Saxony-Altenburg. Along with many other gifts over thirty thousand golden coins were collected.
After a consideration, however, it was decided to give priority to the establishment of a school and of a parsonage.
The foundation stone was not laid until 1869. The construction took two years and three months. The church (Friedenskirche – Peace church) was consecrated in 1871.
