Relief of the Archdukes
The relief may be found on the House at the Two Archdukes in Krále Jiřího z Poděbrad Square.
The relief, according to which the house was commonly known as the House at the Two Princes, was created in 1806. Three years earlier, two Austrian Archdukes, Johann and Ludwig, had been accommodated at the local inn and had granted the innkeeper their permission to rename his establishment in their honour. The popular inn was later renamed to the Hotel in the Square and ultimately closed down in 1926. The relief is one of the few preserved Habsburg artefacts in Cheb that were spared in 1918. The town was able to persuade the state authorities not to remove the medallion and instead to include it among protected historical monuments.
