Bernhard Adler

Adler Bernhard, 12.9.1753 (Cheb) – 1810 (Cheb), the physician and founder of Františkovy Lázně. In 1782, he completes the study of medicine in Vienna with a dissertation about the Cheb healing spring. In 1783, he starts working as the second physician in Cheb, in 1785 he becomes the district physician and in 1795 he is appointed as the first spa physician. His vigorous steps to protect the spring called “Chebská kyselka“ near the village of Slatina caused a revolt of the Cheb women in August 1791. In the subsequent two years he managed to push through his idea about building the therapeutic spa and on the basis of the courtyard edict dated on27.4. 1793, the Cheb colony with first buildings and spa becomes officially the spa. Adler becomes a pioneer in the gas application treatment by utilizing the gas seepage from the so called thunder-like spring.
