Franz Stein

Stein Franz (Franko), a politician and a journalist, born June 1 1869 in Vienna; died July 17 1943 in Lienz, the Tyrol. – the son of a factory worker. After passing the final apprenticeship examination as precision mechanic he tried to establish a German´s workers nationalist movement. In 1893, he established German Worker´s National Association in Bohemia which was then re-named to German´s Workers Association Germania in 1899, the newspaper called “der Hammer“ (The Hammer) was published regularly since 1895 and he edited it himself. Since1897, he lived as a journalist in Cheb. 1898–1938 he published a yearbook of the newspaper “Hammer“ which came out partially also under the name “A yearly book of workers of German nationality“, “Bismarck´s yearly book “ or ”Všeněmecký věstník“(All-German bulletin). 1899 he summoned first convection of German workers to Cheb, where under his leadership a 25-point program was agreed on. 1899–1909, Stein was a member of the Czech parliament, in 1901 he came back to Vienna and kept working in the German politics and in the German press.
