The great entrepreneur and business adviser Ambros Swetlik was born on 29th September 1871 in Bílovec, district of Nový Jičín, (former Wagstadt in Silesia). He was trained to be a buyer in Opava with Mathias Butschek and he studied a business school there. He had went to dispel (German Sagan in Lower Silesia, now Poland) after his graduation and then to Forst in Lužice (German Lausitz), where he studied further. He passed the necessary tests and he tried to get the clerk position in Vienna. Because of the location he would have to wait too long to be placed, he decided to take an employment in the industry. Thus he came as an accountant into the factory for bicycles “Premierwerke” in Cheb, where he developed himself and he was promoted in a short time.
He got married to Maria Rosa Butscheková on 9th July 1898 in Opava. She was a daughter of the merchant M. Butschek, where he was trained to be a buyer. They lived in Cheb, but half a year later Swetlik was recalled to Vienna, in order to control the local branch Cheb plant. Two years later the family returned back to Cheb. Ambros Swetlik had become the head of the office, then the director of the factory. He became independent in 1911 and together with Heinrich Kastrup, the former director of the subsidiary “Premierwerke” in Nuremberg; they established the plant hire “Es-Ka“. The enterprise prospered under their leadership and it became the largest factory of its kind in Czechoslovakia.
Ambros Swetlik tried to compose poems and he was considered to be a patron of art. He died in Cheb 25th January 1932. His tomb is among the best preserved thanks to the reconstruction of the Cheb cemetery. His son Wilhelm Swetlik studied in Cheb in gymnasium and then later in Prague, Munich, England and in the USA. He worked in “Eska“ and he gradually replaced his father in his function. After his death, Wilhelm became President of the Board.
