Memorial Plaque – Rudolfinum
The vast school campus consisting of several buildings situated between Komenského, Májová and Sládkova Street housed several institutions. The main entrances may be found in Komenského and Sládkova Street. The campus was designed by Viennese architect Gustav Corompay who won a competition announced for this purpose in 1874. The own construction was completed by V. Nekvasil from Prague and J. Siegel from Cheb in 1875. In the 1900s, the campus was enlarged by J. Pascher.
The main building in Komenského Street comprising of three wings and a descending middle section houses the campus hall and a large staircase. As dictated by modern construction requirements, a corridor leading towards the main forefront connects the classrooms and thereby facilitates ideal ventilation and illumination thanks to the large windows. The Neo-Classical forefront imitates the style of Antique Rome, the imperial legacy of which was professed by the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
