Memorial plaque – New synagogue
The New Synagogue which used to stand on the corner of Hradební Street from 1893 was burnt down on 10 November 1938 during the so called “Crystal night”, then it was levelled, and a fire cistern was built in its place. A prefab block extension to the building of the then dormitories of the School of Agriculture, as well as an administration building, was built here in 1993. A commemorative plaque to the Jews of Cheb who had to flee the town and many of whom were killed in the concentration camps was unveiled on this house, standing on the site of the former synagogue, on 10 November 2004. The plaque was initiated by the Rabbi of Karlovy Vary, Samuel Abramson, and historian Jitka Chmelíková who was the first to document the fates of the Jews of Cheb in 2000. The plaque was made by stonecutter Alexander Horský from Karlovy Vary and the costs were covered by the town of Cheb along with the Foundation Fund for the Holocaust Victims.
