Memorial Plaque – Friedrich Schiller 1
The commemorative plaque commemorating the poet´s stay in Cheb was procured from the initiative of the director of the teacher´s institution Eduard Kittel at the expenses of the Cheb choirs. The plaque made of Bavarian black marble was placed next to the entrance in the ground-floor on 9 May 1866 and the original house of Metternich started to be called the Schiller´s house. There was an incorrect date of the Schiller´ stay in Cheb up until the beginning of the seventies (the year of 1798 according to the Karga´s chronicle. On the initiative of the writer Karel Reznicek, the date had to be corrected and after the house has been repaired and reconstructed, the plaque was carefully transferred between the windows of the first floor. The commemorative plaque was destroyed during the reconstruction of the house in the years of 1960 – 1962. A new commemorative plaque was placed again next to the entrance in 2005.
