On 23 October 1922, the committee of the Ministry of Education decided to acquire a plot at the corner of Pražská and Májová Street with an area of 80 ares for the construction of a new Czech school. The District Authority received a subsidy of 252,000 Czechoslovak Crowns for the purchase of Mr. Helmfeld’s garden. In March 1923, the headmaster of the Czech school in Cheb presented a proposal for the construction of a primary and council school in the town. The construction design was developed by the firm of architects Hladeček, Jenč and Krofta from Plzeň. Construction work commenced on 17 May 1924. The cost of the entire school project, including the gymnasium and drawing classroom, a workshop and premises for a kindergarten, amounted to 1,600,000 crowns. The grand opening of the school and of the neighbouring residential house took place on 13 September 1925. The total of 157 pupils and students attended the primary and council school in the school year 1924/25.
