District Home for the Elderly

Not accessible to the public
In 1928 and 1929, a new home for the elderly was built on the southern slope of Špitální vrch (Hospital Hill) according to the design of deceased architect Rösler from Liberec. The construction amounting to more than 7 million crowns was funded by the Cheb District. The home, opened on 16 March 1930, provides accommodation, comprehensive care and treatment to 150 elderly men and women who are incapable of work. Based on its tax burden, the Town of Cheb is entitled to half of the capacity of the home. At present, 80 people from Cheb are accommodated at the home and two crowns per day are allocated to each of them. The home was built in compliance with modern standards that correspond to the requirements of our time. Overall simple and plain, yet equipped with central heating, bathrooms, passenger and freight lifts, modern kitchens, laundry and drying rooms, the home may serve as a model for similar facilities. The three-storey building is surrounded by a large garden. Oriented towards the south and shielded by Špitální Hill from the north, the garden offers the elderly an opportunity to enjoy a little fresh air. The open balconies on the south side of the building serve the same purpose.
