One of the largest breweries in the north-western Bohemia, the first stock brewery in Cheb started its operation in April 1873, achieving a yearly output of 115,000 hectolitres of beer. In addition to light and dark beers, Egerer Urbräu, a 13 degrees light beer has become a specialty of this brewery. In 1930, over 300 persons were employed here and the brewery produced 182,000 hectolitres of beer.

The buildings of the stock brewery were considerably damaged during the air-raids in April 1945 and the operation was stopped. The operation was renewed after a yearly repair in October 1946. In 1947, the brewery was put under state control and the production was suspended. The Cheb´s brewery has become a plant of the Pilsen brewery after 1960 which did not pay off after 1989. Despite the output of almost 300 000 hectolitres of beer in 1990 there was obviously already a decision to close it. The Cheb´s brewery was ordered to cease brewing at the end of 1994. The production equipment was dismantled and sold in the course of the next year and one of the most known and best breweries in north-western Bohemia ceased to exist.
