General hospital
The building remains the seat of a hospital.
The general hospital built together by the town of Cheb and by the district of Cheb was dedicated to its purpose in July 1910. The building costs reached around 876,000 crowns. It stands behind the militia barracks. The new hospital is a beautiful building; there are just a few beautiful buildings in Cheb. It imposes not only from the outside but also by the internal equipment. The latter has been the fruit of long and careful studies conducted by senior doctor Heitzer in numerous hospitals both home and abroad. The visitor will find here devices and equipment which can be seen only in the largest hospitals. It is a joy to watch these sophisticated devices, equipment and tools and almost to forget to which purpose these things were made. In any case it is sure that expenses were not spared when constructing and equipping the hospital (both were in the best hands) so that all modern requirements can be met. There hardly can be found a town of the size of Cheb which can be proud of such a beautiful purposeful hospital building. A guided tour of the institution which can take 1,5 – 2 hours is very interesting and you will be richly rewarded for your effort. The town and the district of Cheb have built a praiseworthy monument of willingness and social conviction by this new hospital – for the welfare and health of our all ill co-citizens who can now look up this first class institution without a shame and hesitation and to look for healing and liberation from their suffering there. Our admiration belongs to the men under whose diligent hands this beautiful work arose.
