Gas House
Bearing the coat of arms of the Juncker family, the ostentatious patrician house is known as Metternich’s House after its owner who hosted Emperor Leopold I during his visit to Cheb in 1673. In connection with the stay of F. Schiller at the local Golden Stag Inn in 1791, the house is also often denoted as Schiller’s House. Famous music composer W. H. Veit resided at the house between the years 1854 and 1862. The memorial plaques of both notable personages had been installed on the facade until 1954 when they were removed during reconstruction work and subsequently destroyed.
