Bridge at the Bridge Gate
The original bridge no longer exists. It was replaced by a concrete structure.
The oldest bridge at the former Bridge Gate was the only bridge across the Eger river in the town providing all traffic in the northern direction to Františkovy Lázně and further to the border with Saxony and Bavaria till the half the 20est century. In 1899 it was replaced by a new modern bridge, serving until April 1945 when it was blasted by the Cheb militia. The temporary wooden bridge built by American sappers was damaged during the floods in the spring of 1947 and the sapper military division set up and protruded an iron construction of a new bridge across the river in April. Despite it was an English Bailey sapper bridge it was called American bridge until 1988 when it was replaced by a concrete structure.
